Visioning Sport LOCAL

"We have to first dream it, before we can achieve it" - Laura Baldwin OLY

This is an invitation to vision how 2030 could be if we did everything possible between now and then to address the multiple crises we face. This is fun! Free your mind of any constraints, allow yourself time to daydream, imagine how much better life could be, in fact, lets make it tantalising, delightful and irresistible so that people want to make the positive changes happen... Draw, write your ideas down or voice or video record and share them, inviting others to do the same.

Day In The Life Of An Athlete In 2030

Vision by Joe Hodgson

Sport has changed so much since I was growing up. As a young athlete, I never imagined I would

make it to this level, I also never thought sport would be the way it is today. I watched the World

Cup as a child thinking ‘I want to be there in that big fancy stadium’, but it somehow felt so far away.

Both from where I was living and from my own experience of football. Those athletes on the TV had

everything they could want: equipment, money, adoration, support… But where I was, we had none

of that. Where we are now is so much better and it feels even better knowing it’s here to stay.

When I was a child, the climate emergency was a big thing. It was all over the news and while I didn’t fully understand what was happening, I knew we all had to change so I could carry on playing the sport I love. I was afraid that I wouldn’t make it to the World Cup, and I was also afraid that it

wouldn’t even exist when I grew up. The sporting events I watched on TV were everything, they gave

me the motivation and inspiration to say: that’s my calling, that’s where I want to be. So I was afraid

that would be taken away. But here we are, and this is just magical.

I have never felt healthier. Since taking up a more plant-based diet, I feel so much happier and

healthier knowing my body is fueled and I’m doing good for the planet. Everything we need is

around us, we just need to open our eyes and look for it.

I now have so much more space and time to get out into the community. I never had this as a child

because I only ever saw athletes through a TV screen. They were still inspirational, but if I had the

chance to speak to them like I speak to my community, perhaps these changes could’ve come

sooner? Who knows!

The streets leading to the stadium are vibrant and bustling, reflecting the sustainable transport

priorities of our community. Smooth surfaces, designed specifically for cycling, skating, or

scootering, guide me to the heart of our local sporting hub. It's exhilarating to see families and

fellow sports enthusiasts taking to these car-free roads, embracing active modes of transportation.

Upon reaching the stadium, I am greeted by the sound of cheers and the warm camaraderie of the

local community. The once-empty spaces surrounding the stadium have been transformed into lush green areas, seamlessly blending nature into the urban landscape. This harmonious coexistence with nature is a constant reminder of our commitment to sustainability and the well-being of our planet.

Training sessions are filled with determination and a shared passion for the beautiful game. As I step onto the immaculate pitch, the energy in the air is palpable. Our training facilities are state-of-the-art, equipped with cutting-edge technology and resources that empower us to hone our skills.

I get unwavering support from my local community. The stands are packed with enthusiastic fans,

friends, and families who come together to cheer us on. The atmosphere is electric, and I always feel that fire within me to perform at my best and inspire the next generation of aspiring football players.

Our community's commitment to sports is reflected in the incredible network of sports clubs thathave become integral parts of our lives. These clubs are more than just places to train; they are

vibrant hubs where families and friends gather, strengthening the bonds that tie our community

together. The support we receive from coaches, teammates, and fellow club members fuels our

determination to succeed.

Beyond the training grounds and match days, the local community plays an active role in supporting our journey. Whether it's through local sponsorships, fundraisers, or simply showing up to cheer us on, their presence and encouragement propel us forward. The solidarity we feel is immeasurable, reinforcing the belief that we are not just individual players, but representatives of a united community.

In this transformed sporting landscape, the concept of competition has taken on a new meaning.

While the desire to win still exists, the emphasis has shifted towards personal growth, self-

improvement, and collective achievement. We are encouraged to push our limits, embrace

teamwork, and strive for excellence both on and off the field.

As a football player in 2030, I am grateful to be part of a world that values and supports sports at the local level. The journey to this point has been transformative, with our community's dedication to sustainability, inclusivity, and well-being shaping every aspect of our sporting experience.

We have a beautiful World of sport now, it’s green it’s safe and we can make the most of what this

world was really meant to be.
